Meet Ellie Danks from the West Midlands, UK. Mum to a little girl and pregnant with number 2.
Tell us a bit about yourself…
I’m Ellie, or Elle which I prefer and most people tend to call me! I’ve been with my partner Ben for almost 11 years! We were childhood sweethearts and we got engaged in the summer of 2017. We have one feisty, daring and loving daughter who is 2, and we are excited to be expecting baby number 2 this year! I’m currently working as an English Academic coach which is a bit like an English teacher except I specifically work with disadvantaged or under performing students. I love working and being a mom but at times it is a bit of a juggling act – especially when pregnant. I’m a book geek, I love to read and my house is full of books (lots of which I collected whilst studying), I also love being part of the Instagram mom community.
You’re an “online mommy” – have you found being a part of an online community has helped or hindered motherhood for you?
I’ve always been the type of person who goes straight to google to find a forum or an online group when I’m starting anything new. I just feel most confident when I’ve got others to ask about a new venture. It just felt natural for me to get involved in the online community of motherhood, since I was adventuring the well trodden, sometimes bumpy, path of motherhood myself. I have absolutely loved every moment of being a Mom but of course sometimes I feel the Mom guilt, fear and loneliness that most moms know all too well, and so many moms were talking about it online it felt like such an honest and open community. Using Instagram to document my life as a Mom but also being able to connect with so many other Moms who are also sharing their Mom lives and their collections of moments- big or small- is a really enjoyable thing to be a part of. Sometimes you look around as a Mom and feel like everyone has their lives perfectly organised, but it’s so not true and there’s no such thing as perfect.
What is your favourite:
Anything with avocado- I love me some good fats haha! Cannot beat a poached egg with some crushed avocado
Ways to stay active:
Running after a toddler! But I’m on my feet all day at work and there’s plenty of stairs.
Self Love act:
Relaxing with a good book and a great foot massage from my very generous other half!
What advice do you have for all moms based on your experience?
You’re doing your best Mommy! Every time you think your life is descending into a total mess there will be someone looking at you thinking wow how has she managed to get out of the house- kids in tow- and nappy bags organised, and still had time to look so put together? We are all judging ourselves, some more than others. Be kind to another Mom they might just desperately need to hear something uplifting today.
Can you share any motherhood/health quotes that you love?
I am proud of many things in life but nothing beats being a mother. There is no no way to be a perfect mother, but a million ways to be a good one.
Any final words?
Live your best life!
