Coffee With Zandra

Meet Zandra Conway, a gorgeous photographer mum of 2 boys, based in Durban, KZN.

Please tell us a bit about yourself, Zandra

Been married for almost 9 years to the man of my dreams and we have two boys Noah and Ezra. Together we own Conway Photography, specializing in wedding photography. I am also obsessed with capturing my boys!

Tell us what it’s like to be mum of 2 boys!

Wow. Where do I even start with the emotions of being a mom of two boys. Growing up both my husband and I never even thought that boys would be in the future for us. All our life we imagined that we would be raising girls. Silly I know to have this closed minded idea of what life would be like, but when we were told we were having a boy we didn’t quite know what to do with ourselves. We were just so convinced that we would have girls. However it didn’t take long for us to fall in love with the idea of a little boy running around and when we were told our second child was also a boy we knew that we had been given this beautiful chance and blessing to raise two good men for this world. There’s a four year gap between Noah and Ezra and I love watching them bond as they grow. Noah is such a good brother and honestly it’s made motherhood so exciting. It’s a whirlwhind most of the time especially because my boys are so different. It’s mostly an emotional roller-coaster and I try some nights to remember what a clean house looks like or even a white shirt, or what it feels like not to be exhausted but who needs all that when you can have big boy hugs, crawling into your bed, sweet little smiles that run to you when you fetch them from school. I’m the only girl in my house and man I am surrounded by so much love!

What is your favourite:

Healthy food: I love experimenting with salads.  Especially during the Summer.  I’m always looking for new and interesting salads.
Way to stay active: We as a family love looking for new adventures and try explore new little trails every weekend.  Long walks has certainly become a favourite past time.  It’s also an excuse to take the camera along and take a few snaps of the boys
Self love act: When it’s just me, nothing beats a long hot bath!

What advice do you have for new moms or moms in general based on your experience?

You will be amazed at how natural motherhood comes to you. When Noah my first born was born I used to think ” wow, I’ve managed to keep him alive for another month”. I had no baby experience whatsoever before this tiny little boy came into my life and I was petrified that I wouldn’t know what to do, but as soon as I got home with him it was like this beautiful amazing mother instinct kicked in and I knew I would be okay.

Are there any motherhood/health quotes that you love?

I live in a madhouse run by a tiny army that I made myself. – But man do I love my madhouse!

Any final words?

Someone once told me that you don’t have to be a perfect mom. You just have to be a good one. Social media and the world puts so much pressure on us to fit into the perfect mom mould. I love having real conversations with other moms because at the end of the day I know that we are all in the same boat. There is no perfect mom. God chose me of all the mommies in this world to love and cherish Noah and Ezra because he knew that I would be able to give them what they need in order to forfill His calling on their life. Trust in that and do lots of playdates!
